You may remember him from the Marx & Bensdorf Masters Race where soloed away from the field for the win. Ron will be racing both Masters and some Cat 1/2 races next season.

Also joining the team is Aaron Parker.  Aaron come to us from the Memphis Velo club in town, where he has moved through the Category 4 ranks this season and is finishing off his 2008 season as a Cat 3.  Welocme to both guys!!

Joseph Welsh Receives his Category 2 Upgrade (8.30.08)

After a 2008 season and a big win in the 1/2/3 field at the Meridian Omnium Road Race, Joseph has moved up to the Cat 2 ranks.  Congrats!!

River Gorge Omnium (08.23-08.24.08)

Five members of the team made their way to Chattanooga to battle the field and the mountains in pursuit of victory.  Michael Olheiser, Sam Silvey, and Michael Lanham geared up for the Pro 1/2 race, while Darrell O'Quinn and Travis Sherman tested their fitness in the Masters race.

The Pro 1/2 race saw early attacks on a road course that was made for the climbers.  The field was stacked, with pro riders from Jittery Joe's,  DLP, and Rock Racing all on the start line.

The race was fast early, and Mike Olheiser showed his great form.  On the final climb of the day, Olheiser and Rock Racing's Ollerenshaw battled it out with Mike coming in second.  The stage was set for Mike to take the overall lead in the Time Trial.

This is exactly what happened, Mike won the time trial, and then sealed the deal with a strategic 14th place in the criterium on Sunday.

Riding in support of Olheiser, Lanham was able to get a great result of his own in the road race, placing twelth overall.  Silvey was not far back in 20th.

Lanham followed up his 12th place in the road race with a 13th place in the time trial.

Darrell O'Quinn and Travis Sherman showed great teamwork in the Masters race, with Darrell taking 2nd in the Road Race, 6th in the Time Trial. Despite a wreck that left his bike in two pieces, and chuncks of flesh on a chainring, O'Quinn raced to 9th in the Criterium.  This kept him on the podium with a 3rd place finish.  Read his race report which includes a nasty picture from his wreck in the criterium.  Race Report

John McLauchlin has opted to have surgery on his collerbone after his spill in the Meridian Omnium Road Race.  We wish him the same speedy recovery as Rick.

Congratulations to Greg Casals on his Cat 2 Upgrade (08.20.08)

Greg Casals received his upgrade to Cat 2.  He is looking forward to helping the team and playing an active role in the P/1/2 races next season.

Meridian Omnium (08.16-08.17.08)

The weekend of racing started off in Meridian with a fast P/1/2/3 Criterium.  Olheiser took control of the race early, attacking off the front of the race at about lap 3 and rode solo for the victory.

Behind Olheiser, Marx & Bensdorf riders remained active with Joseph Welsh getting into a break.  Butcher was able to bridge up to Welsh and his breakaway companion, crossing the gap with two other riders in tow.  Welsh fell off the pace, but Butcher and the other three riders stayed away from the main field.  The race for second saw a photo finish with Butcher missing second place by just a few centimeters.  Brent Thompson finished in 8th place on the day.  Darrell O'Quinn crossed the line just after Brent for 9th.

Sunday saw the team head out to Cuba, Alabama, 60 plus miles of racing over challenging terrain.  Brent Thompson was in an early move which allowed the rest of the team to sit in and cover attacks.

Later in the race, with the field tired, an attack went off the front with Joseph Welsh sitting in tow.  Welsh's break caught Thompson, who put in a huge pull to help Welsh's break stay away.  Fatigued, Thompson dropped off the pace and back to the main field.

Welsh and Wenzel soon reeled in and then dropped the remaining rider from the early break.  This put Welsh in a position to win his first 1/2/3 race of the year.  In the last 1k, a game of cat and mouse began.  Welsh jumped first, and the two riders sprinted it out side-by-side.  Welsh was able to pull away and secure the victory.  Video of the Finish

Olheiser raced to 4th place on the day, good enough to secure him the top podium position in the Meridain Omnium Overall!  Behind Mike,  O'Quinn raced to 5th place on the day and 7th Overall.  Joseph Welsh ended up in 3rd place Overall in the Cat 3 Omnium scoring.

Unfortunately, this race saw a wreck that broke the collerbone of John McLauchlin and fellow rider Paul Koehn separated his shoulder.  O'Quinn, was also caught up in the carnage, but was able to make it out with just some mechanical problems.

Cleveland Criterium and Time Trial (08.09-08.10.08)

Sam Silvey and Jay McElroy represented Marx & Bensdorf well this past weekend over in Cleveland, TN.  Sam Silvey raced his way to a 6th place finish in the Criterium.

Jay McElroy decided that he would test his legs twice at the Cleveland Time Trial on Sunday.  He showed that he is riding well, placing 3rd in the Masters and then following that up with a 4th place finish in the P/1/2 Category. Nice work to both!!

Elite National Championships (08.06.08, 08.10.08)

Some of the best riders in the nation tested themselves against eachother and the clock last weekend in Orange County, CA.  Among those hoping for gold were Michael Olheiser and Michael Lanham, both of whom have had great results in the past weeks and months.

Olheiser powered his way to a 2nd place finish, proving once again that he is a force to be reckoned with on the national scene.  Lanham pedaled his was to a very respectable 30th place.  Congratulations and nice work to both!!

The Road Race saw numerous attacks and counter attacks, with Olheiser not making the one that stuck.  He drove the chase group without much help, and finished 11th overall.  For a more detailed look on the road race, view Mike's report.
